Helen looks out over the barren plain towards the east.
Spring has arrived early this year, but the mountains are still snow
covered. Yesterday an Amazon delegation arrived in the city to negotiate an alliance between Amazonia and Troy. The delegation is led by the Amazon Queen, Penthesilea, accompanied by her eldest daughter, Antianara. Helen's fame as a beauty is well know to all, but to the Amazons her reputation as an accomplished and eager wrestler is of more interest. So it was that the previous evening, at a feast held to honour the Amazons, Queen Penthesilea had challenged Helen to wrestle her daughter Antianara. Before replying Helen had glanced at her father-in-law Priam, the King of Troy, who had nodded his head emphatically. So she had accepted the challenge and the fight would take place that evening outside the city walls on the side away from the Greek army. |
