I had taken it upon myself to train a couple
of my young servant women to tussle. At first I did this to
provide myself with some sport in my own home, but once I had a few
girls in training I realised that I
might establish a female fighting team like the one my good friend Lydia
ran. It was a few days after Menelaus left for Macedonia and I was giving Semphar, the most promising of my budding fighters, a training session in the "grain pit". I had discovered this disused grain storage pit at the edge of my husband's property. It was about 10 cubits deep with stone lined walls and a dry sand floor and, best of all, it was totally screened from the house and surrounding land. It was a perfect location for having a tussle in private without alerting the servants or my husband! This afternoon I was showing Semphar a range of backbreaker moves that were guaranteed to bring a submission from the opponent. |
